...who?
I'm Adrian, a PhD student with the CHART research group at the University of Nottingham.
I'm interested in all things robotic, specifically anything that brings robots closer to people! This includes robotic embodiment design, control algorithms, and especially the applications of Machine Learning to improve Human-Robot Collaboration. Right now I'm looking into multimodal applications of Learning from Demonstration (LfD), using methods to allow robots to learn from us more effectively, making working alongside robots more intuitive and easy for people. I'm really curious to investigate how these methods can allow both verbal and non-verbal human feedback to directly affect the autonomous actions of a robot.
I've also been particularly fond of interesting ways to communicate with robots. In my 4th year research project I peered into urban search and rescue robots, and devised a way to use a vest plastered in motors to communicate realtime information to a user, without the need to obscure the visual or auditory channels. This involved working with one of my favorite robots, Spot! This research project was further refined into my first academic paper: Vibrotactile information coding strategies for a body-worn vest to aid robot-human collaboration, which has been accepted for the 2024 International Conference on Social Robotics.
Beyond my research interests, I also oversee the RoboNotts Robotics Team on campus, having led it for almost 3 years now, and winning a few competitions here and there. I'm also a huge hackathon enjoyer, bashing hardware together all over the UK. I love it so much it has its own tab! Leaving computer science alone now, my other hobbies include cooking from all kinds of cuisines, playing big heavy board games, and of course the occasional 400 hour factorio save...
